As the country is waking up to the installation of Fascist architecture all around us (Flock cameras, data centers), we are reacting with understandable anger. We certainly didn’t vote on this. It was foisted on us…and that rarely works in America. The authoritarian companies (and Flock is not the only one, just the most visible) are throwing compromise spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Limit the use, set up permitting, other nonsensical bullshit.
None of it is sticking.
There is no compromising with authoritarians. If you grant them Poland, they will take Czechoslovakia. It’s just what they do. It’s just how they think.
Americans love calling ourselves a free country. We love it. We revel in it. Unfortunately, we can’t call ourselves a free country if we’re not free. So, it’s time to restore actual freedom to our land. Cancel all of the contracts. Make some rigid laws about AI privacy. Rule out surveillance drones. Rule our surveillance dogs (for real, that’s a thing, evil robot dogs—only in America). Take the country back to a time when we actually were free…and then stay there. Otherwise, we’re pretty cooked. I’d really hate to have to modify the language so we call ourselves the “Land of the Kind of, Relatively Free.” It just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?
