When Trump Was Worshiped As Jesus

I recently watched the short series, Death by Lightning, on President Garfield whom I had forgotten like many have. He was assassinated by Charles J. Guiteau after serving only three months in office. Guiteau worshiped Garfield with a devotion and fervor that disturbed me. He was clearly a fanatic, seeing him as the savior of America. That is how MAGA people worship Trump, to the astonishment of anyone who can see Trump for what he is underneath. Perhaps that is beginning to fade although my MAGA friend just commented that “we should let some things just belong to the past” when considering exposing the Epstein files.

Worshiping a human being has been man’s downfall. Jesus must have perceived that his followers were beginning to worship him when he said “Do not worship me. Worship the One who sent me.” But we did and still do.

Guiteau turned his worship and devotion into the equally fanatical determination that Garfield was evil and it was his patriotic duty to kill him – to save America.

How many times will we go down that path?

Too soon we have forgotten the holy wars.

Some of the most dangerous depictions of Trump that sent chills down my back were when Trump was presented in art as Jesus – crucified, in court with Jesus behind him protecting him from “persecution” and Trump walking on water beside Jesus.

Sadly, it seems that fanatical worship flips into equally fanatical hate. Dems are the enemy from within. Immigrants are vermin. Brutality against them is the same as fighting for Jesus and righteousness.

Are the roots of all this the same roots as the insanity of the devoted Guiteau? You bet.
