The Absence of Presence

AI is lying to you in two ways. First it fools you by pretending to be present and to be listening to you. By “present” I mean conscious like an attentive human can be when s/he interacts with you. Of course we all know that AI isn’t conscious, but we are being groomed to accept that as okay because it is efficient.

Is it really okay? How many times a day do we as conscious souls interact with dead unconscious AI? I have treated too many patients whose parents “weren’t there” for many reasons. The parents were distracted and were too busy. Or they had an autistic core where they “checked out” and went away many times a day. Or they were drugged. Whatever the reason the kid suffered.

The question is, can adults be harmed as well by spending the majority of their day in either AI or digital interaction, an oxymoron since there is no “inter” in the “action.”

Secondly, it swears it will connect us with what we want and efficiently and swiftly perform important transactions, when it actually specializes in blocking the connection. Take, for example, medical situations.

I wanted a medical appointment and obediently went to my patient portal. It would not accept my drugstore so it cut me off from the next step. The cut off is permanent.

So I had the audacity to call the office where the AI answering the phone would not let me speak to the receptionist. It advised me to go to my portal. I had to drive there.

As a customer I’m here to help this office save money by not allowing me to talk to an expensive human being. Will I get paid for my wasted time when I am trying to get an appointment that will put money in their pocket?

That wasn’t serious medically but it could be.

A friend went from the ER to a hospital bed suffering from debilitating severe pain. He waited in bed for 8 hours before seeing anyone. A camera swiveled toward the bed with a voice saying “I am your AI nurse.” That much the patient could tell, but he was profoundly deaf and communication was impossible.

The AI nurse did not connect the failed transaction to a human being who could have come in immediately to see what was wrong. Disconnect triumphs over connection once again.

He could have died.

Perhaps the real problem is some of AI’s designers are autistic and disconnection is their way of life. Life is a series of transactions like buying stuff at Walmart. The soul, feelings and human connection don’t fit in their algorithms because it is absent in their psyches.

If you want a perfect example of everything being transactional, read the rants of incels. They actually think that women dish out sex to get something in return. They feel that they are entitled to sex because they were born and women are just not forking it over. Women give it up for money, security and appearances. No wonder they are not getting laid. Zero experience of love, of soul connection, of spiritual connection. Nope, it’s all a business deal and they just don’t have the currency.
